ADL Deeply Disturbed by Incident in Which Man Tells Jewish Co-Worker She’s “In The Gas Chamber Now”

New York, NY, March 22, 2019…The Anti-Defamation League (“ADL”) expressed deep concern today following an alleged incident of anti-Semitic harassment in Ulster County, New York.

According to police and other reports, Mother Earth’s Storehouse employee William Sullivan, 21, allegedly turned off the lights in a produce cooler while a female co-worker was inside, and said, “You’re in the gas chamber now,” and then called her a “f**king Jew.”  Sullivan was allegedly fired from his job and was also arrested by New York State Police on the misdemeanor charge of aggravated harassment.

“This alleged act of anti-Semitic intimidation, invoking the horrors of the Holocaust, is truly appalling and should not be tolerated in any context,” said Evan R. Bernstein, ADL New York/New Jersey’s Regional Director. “At a time when anti-Semitic incidents are on the rise in New York State, we must remain vigilant and continue to call out and condemn all acts of hate, each and every time.”
