1. What does ADL mean to you?

When I think of ADL, I think of an organization that fights for what it believes in no matter the prevailing political winds, consensus, or the amount of criticism or controversy caused by its stance.  ADL manages to do so in a level-headed, effective manner.  The events that stand out for me are ADL’s opposition to the Carmelite cross and convent at Auschwitz, its outspoken stand against Louis Farrakhan and its work calling attention to anti-Semitic literature in the Arab world.

2. How did you get involved with ADL?

I first got involved right out of law school because I thought, alone among civil rights groups, they were actually effective on a worldwide basis.  Whether helping combat extremist groups or through educational programs such as A World of Difference® – this was, (and is), an organization that walks the walk.

3. As a leader in the ADL community, how would you advise others to have a local impact in the fight against hate?

On having an impact, be vigilant and remember that although we should not overact, nor should we tolerate instances of hate or discrimination.  Do not be afraid to speak out and a small number of energized persons can accomplish a great deal.
