ADL New York Region’s Westchester Advisory Committee Hosts First Annual Event

  • October 23, 2014

On Tuesday, October 21st, approximately 80 guests attended the ADL in Westchester event at the Metropolis Country Club in White Plains to learn more about ADL’s educational programs, featuring No Place For Hate®, an initiative designed to create inclusive communities and empower schools to challenge all forms of bigotry.  The event also served as the launch of the Westchester Advisory Committee – a group committed to expanding ADL’s outreach in the county – chaired by Chappaqua resident Lawrence Bahr.

The roster of speakers included a surprise guest appearance by Congressman Eliot Engel, Assemblywoman Amy Paulin, and Principal Reginald Richardson of New Rochelle High School, who spoke about the need to develop compassion in his students and how No Place For Hate® is helping him with this objective. Joining him were two of his students, who recounted their personal experiences of being bullied. The audience was visibly moved by their story of courage, as they determined to ensure that no other students would have to experience the pain of bullying again. The event concluded with a powerful speech from New York Regional Director, Evan Bernstein, imploring the guests to support the ADL and help expand the No Place For Hate® initiative across Westchester County.
