New York, NY, January 6, 2023 … ADL (the Anti-Defamation League) is offering a reward of up to $7,500 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual(s) responsible for a reported vicious assault that occurred in Central Park last month.
According to the NYPD and other reports, the victim, who is Jewish, was allegedly ambushed from behind by a man who made antisemitic comments and yelled “Kanye 2024” in connection with the attack. The victim is reported to have suffered multiple serious injuries, including a chipped tooth and broken hand. On January 5, 2023, the NYPD announced that they have identified a suspect, who is also reportedly wanted in connection with an anti-Asian assault that occurred on August 15, 2021.
“Hate-motivated attacks cannot be tolerated, and they have a particularly harmful effect on entire communities,” said Scott Richman, ADL New York/New Jersey Regional Director. “Both the Jewish and AAPI communities continue to be targeted, and these attacks have become increasingly violent. In 2021, ADL documented 51 reported antisemitic assaults in New York – an all-time high recorded by ADL for the state. Unfortunately, recent rhetoric from celebrities has further normalized the hate that drives these attacks. We thank the NYPD for their work in identifying an individual in connection with this attack and hope that this reward helps send a message that hate will not be tolerated against any community.”
Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to call NYPD Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.
