New York, NY, February 23, 2017 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today thanked New York Governor Andrew Cuomo for his strong response in the face of the recent wave of anti-Semitic incidents across the state, including a rise in anti-Semitic hate crimes in New York City and bomb threats directed against Jewish Community Centers and ADL.
In his remarks earlier today, Governor Cuomo condemned the bomb threats and announced several actions to combat hate crimes and anti-Semitism across the state.
“We thank and commend Governor Cuomo for his strong and swift response to the various threats directed against our community institutions, including at our national headquarters in Manhattan,” said Evan R. Bernstein, ADL New York Regional Director. “The governor has demonstrated ideal leadership in making it crystal clear that hate against any community is unacceptable. His pledge to use law enforcement and resources at his disposal to ensure that those responsible will be apprehended and punished to the full extent of the law was very reassuring to the Jewish community.”
Mr. Bernstein added, “Such steps by the governor are key for both the prevention of and response to anti-Semitism and hate crimes that continue to plague our cities.”
