New York, NY, February 6th, 2022 … ADL (the Anti-Defamation League) announced today that it is offering a reward of up to $7500 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual or individuals responsible for two separate incidents of apparent antisemitic assault in Williamsburg, Brooklyn on the night of Friday, February 4th.
The first of these incidents can be seen on CCTV footage now publicly available, where an individual rapidly approached two visibly Jewish men from behind and brutally punched one of them, having the effect of knocking the man’s Shtreimel off his head as he lost his balance. This incident is reported to have occurred between Marcy Avenue and Stockton Street.
The second of these incidents is reported to have occurred in the same location but limited details are currently available.
“Attacks against visibly identifiable Jews here in New York and New Jersey have practically become a weekly occurrence.” said Scott Richman, ADL NY/NJ Regional Director. “The Jewish community is on extreme edge and this violence has got to stop. It is becoming normalized, and we simply cannot accept that as the state of affairs. We hope to be able to gather information about these incidents and garner widespread community support to put an end to this violence”.
Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to call NYPD Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.
