New York, NY, January 18, 2019 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) announced today that it is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual or individuals responsible for the alleged assault of an Orthodox Jewish man in Crown Heights on Wednesday.
According to police and other reports, the incident took place on Wednesday, January 16th and involved an alleged passerby who, apparently without provocation, punched the victim in the stomach as their paths crossed, and then proceeded to walk away from the scene.
“We are extremely worried about the escalating climate of tension and fear, following yet another series of violent, apparently unprovoked attacks against Orthodox Jewish individuals in Brooklyn over the past several weeks,” said Evan R. Bernstein, Regional Director of ADL New York / New Jersey.
“We must work together to address these tensions and remain vigilant in making sure our communities are safe for all residents. We hope this reward facilitates the swift apprehension of the person(s) responsible, and we thank the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force for investigating.”
Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to call NYPD Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1(800) 577-TIPS.
