GLI Program Expectations and Responsibilities: 

ADL New York/New Jersey is proud to be able to provide you with an opportunity to participate in the Glass Leadership Institute (GLI). GLI provides the next generation of leaders (in their 20s to early-40s) with an inside look into one of the nation’s leading civil rights organizations. The purpose of GLI is to build a base of leaders who are knowledgeable about the organization’s work and are committed to ensuring the vitality of the organization. All applicants will have an interview, on a rolling basis, after submitting their application. Participants are selected because of their interest in ADL’s mission and our assessment that the individual is interested in learning the skills needed to be a leader in the community. 

As a participant, you will engage in a year of dynamic, interactive sessions exposing you to the different areas of ADL’s work. You will also have the opportunity to attend the joint National Leadership Summit and Never is Now in New York City in March of 2025. Participants are expected to participate in all GLI sessions as well as attend other ADL events. 

Fellowship Program Components: 

All GLI participants must agree to the following requirements and are expected to commit to various activities during the 9-month program as follows: 

  1. Be an Ambassador for ADL – The GLI program introduces a select group of emerging leaders to the important work of ADL and the full range of issues on the ADL agenda. The purpose of this 10-month program is to build a base of leaders who are knowledgeable about ADL’s work and committed to ensuring the vitality of the agency and its mission – to stop the defamation of the Jewish people and secure justice and fair treatment for all.
  2. Attend Scheduled Sessions – Attend all monthly sessions scheduled on Wednesday evenings from September 2024 through June 2025. Unless otherwise noted in advance all sessions will be held in person in New York City. A calendar for the year will be sent before the start of the program. We recognize that emergencies and conflicts may arise and a session may have to be missed. If more than one session is missed without permission, you will be at risk of not graduating from the program.
  3. Attend Never Is Now and the National Leadership Summit  – ADL’s Summit on Antisemitism and Hate will be held in March of 2025 at the Javits Center in New York City. Programming will include panels on fighting antisemitism and combatting extremism, a high school student track, CLE eligible programming and more! As part of this expanded event, ADL’s National Leadership Summit (NLS) will take place in March of 2025.
    – The conference registration fee is included in the cost of the program.  
  4. Attend a pair of Retreats – Attend a pair of full-day retreats would convene the new GLI cohort for programming and networking before the start of the 10-month GLI curriculum and again at the midpoint, helping ADL’s next generation of leaders build meaningful and long-lasting connections with each other and with ADL.
  5. Personal Financial Commitment – Participants are asked to contribute a minimum gift of $500 to the ADL NY/NJ 2024 annual campaign. Installment payment plans by credit card or check are also available. This gift includes the registration fee at the 2025 National Leadership Summit.
    – We believe cost should not be a barrier to participation for qualified applicants.   6. Meet with your Peer-to-Peer Match – Participants are asked to attend a pair of full-day retreats would convene the new GLI cohort for programming and networking before the start of the 10-month GLI curriculum and again towards the end, helping ADL’s next generation of leaders build meaningful and long-lasting connections with each other and with ADL.
  7. Attend other ADL meetings and events – Attendance at these events will equip participants with hands-on knowledge of how the agency functions. These events are crucial to the development of ADL leaders, providing participants with additional opportunities to meet ADL senior leadership and will give participants an opportunity to find their niche in the organization.

Culmination of the Glass Leadership Institute: 

At the culmination of the program, participants will have a deeper understanding of the mission, goals, and work of ADL. They will have explored possibilities for future ADL involvement, with the help of staff and lay leaders. Relationships established during the program with ADL professionals, board members, and fellow participants provide the necessary support for ongoing involvement in ADL.  Our intent is that graduates will remain knowledgeable, involved and committed supporters of ADL, and serve as a volunteer and ambassadors for ADL in their local communities.
