New York, NY, December 30, 2015 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today expressed deep concern over nearly a dozen incidents targeting the Jewish community that took place across the five boroughs of New York City since September.

Just this week, an Orthodox Jewish teen was violently assaulted in the Midwood neighborhood of Brooklyn. According to reports, the 17-year-old victim was punched in the face and thrown into the street by the assailant while walking home from his Yeshiva on December 28.

ADL has documented at least a dozen alleged anti-Semitic incidents since September, including:

• September 21: Two Jewish men were attacked with a BB gun in the Kew Gardens, Queens.
• October 14:  The Stanton Street Synagogue on the Lower East Side of Manhattan was broken into and vandalized.
• October 16: An Orthodox Jewish man was punched in the back of the head in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
• Nov. 3: A Jewish man was slashed with a knife in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.
• Nov. 4: A Jewish victim in Brooklyn was punched in the face while the suspect allegedly stated, “I’m tired and fed up of the Jews.”
• December 1: The Manager of a Judaica store on the Upper West Side of Manhattan was assaulted while the perpetrator allegedly exclaimed “(Expletive) you Jews. I’ll kill you. I’m a Muslim.”
• December 2: A Bukharian Jewish man was assaulted in Borough Park, Brooklyn while the attacker purportedly yelled “(Expletive) Jew, where you running? Slow down you (Expletive) Jew.”
• December 3: A suspect was arrested for yelling anti-Semitic slurs outside of the Ahi Ezer Congregation in Brooklyn.
• Dec. 7: A large public menorah was desecrated in the Yorkville neighborhood of Manhattan during Hanukah.

“In the latter months of this year, we have witnessed nearly a dozen heinous assaults in which visibly identifiable Jews were singled out for violence across the city,” said Evan R. Bernstein, ADL New York Regional Director. “We are deeply concerned by these violent anti-Semitic crimes perpetrated against New York City’s Jewish community. We must call attention to these attacks and do all we can – together with NYPD, community and religious leaders and our elected officials – to stamp out these horrific incidents that leave our neighbors, friends and family feeling vulnerable.”
