SUMMARY:International Holocaust Remembrance Day: Critical and Compelling Lessons Applicable to Civil Society and the Legal Community Today
DESCRIPTION:January 27\, the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau\, has been designated by the UN General Assembly as International Holocaust Remembrance Day to honor the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust and to urge UN member states to take measures to prevent future genocides. The panel will analyze how and why contemporary society has failed to sufficiently internalize the lessons from the Holocaust\, which is most evident in the rise of anti-Semitic hate speech and continued persecution of minority communities in various countries around the world. The panel will highlight the importance of providing a lasting voice and support to survivors of the Holocaust\, which is essential to ensuring this community is continually heard and never forgotten\, and will explore the rising trend of anti-Semitism across regions of the globe\, especially in Europe and the United States\, including the growth of anti-Semitic hate speech in social media that has motivated in-person discrimination and physical violence against Jewish communities.\n\nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER\n\nWelcome:\nSheila S. SUMMARY:"It Could Happen Here" with Blank Slate Media
DESCRIPTION:ADL CEO and National Director\, Jonathan Greenblatt recently published his first book\, It Could Happen Here\, which demonstrates how antisemitism\, racism\, and other insidious forms of intolerance can undermine a society\, taking root as quiet prejudices but mutating over time into acts of brutality.  Jonathan offers strategies for how we—as individuals\, as organizations\, and as a society—can strike back against hate.  It draws extensively on our work at ADL and highlights multiple aspects of our approach to fighting for justice and fair treatment to all. \nJonathan will be doing a town hall with Blank Slate Media from 7:00pm – 8:00pm to discuss his new book and antisemitism in America. Award-winning journalist and Blank Slate Media publisher Steven Blank will have an exclusive one-on-one discussion with Jonathan to discuss the threat of violence on a catastrophic scale and how we can stop it. \nBlank Slate Media publishes several newspapers on the North Shore of Long Island\, so wanted to share this opportunity with all of you in case anyone is interested in attending. \nThis program will be held virtually and free of charge. To register and for more information\, please visit theislandnow.com/communityforum. This will be a great opportunity to hear from ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt. \n
