SUMMARY:My Italian Secret: The Forgotten Heroes\, A Special Presentation
DESCRIPTION:SPECIAL GUESTS\nElizabeth Bettina \nConsulting Producer of “My Italian Secret: The Forgotten Heroes”\nand Author of “It Happened in Italy: Untold Stories of How the People\nof Italy Defied the Horrors of the Holocaust” \n David Waren \nDirector of the Anti-Defamation League’s Education Division \nWould you risk your life to save a stranger and never talk about it? \n“My Italian Secret: The Forgotten Heroes” tells the story of sports idol Gino Bartali and other courageous Italians who carried out ingenious schemes to rescue Jews\, partisans and refugees from Nazi-occupied Italy. Gino Bartali is a sports legend; but his most daring triumph came when he risked his life over and over to save Jews threatened by Nazi extermination. The story of Bartali and the secret network he worked with stands in for the stories of thousands of Italians who risked their lives to save others from capture and death. As an entire continent was engulfed in a genocide which took the lives of most Jews in Nazi-occupied Europe (nearly 6 million people)\, more than 80 percent of Italy’s Jews survived. Bartali\, like most of the rescuers\, never sought recognition or reward. Few of those he helped knew his name or what role he played in their rescue. \nIn collaboration with the New York Region of the Anti-Defamation League and the Italian American Forum\, Morgan Stanley is proud to host the screenwriters and producers\, as well as Holocaust survivors from Italy to  share an important story of what happens when good people stand up to the face of evil. SUMMARY:Book Signing with Abraham H. Foxman and Christopher Wolf
DESCRIPTION:Date: May 21\, 2013 \n\n\n\nMeet Abraham H. Foxman\, ADL’s National Director\, and co-author Christopher Wolf\, a data security law expert\, to discuss Viral Hate\, Containing Its Spread on the Internet on Tuesday\, June 4 at 7:00 p.m at Barnes & Noble\, 2289 Broadway (82nd Street).  Emboldened by anonymity\, individuals and organizations from both left and right are freely spewing hateful vitriol on the Internet without worrying about repercussions. Lies\, bullying\, conspiracy theories\, bigoted and racist rants\, and calls for violence targeting the most vulnerable circulate openly on the web. And thanks to the guarantees of the First Amendment and the borderless nature of the Internet\, governing bodies are largely helpless to control this massive assault on human dignity and safety. \nAbraham H. Foxman and Christopher Wolf expose the threat that this unregulated flow of bigotry poses to the world. They explore how social media companies like Facebook and YouTube\, as well as search engine giant Google\, are struggling to reconcile the demands of business with freedom of speech and the disturbing threat posed by today’s purveyors of hate. And they explain the best tools available to citizens\, parents\, educators\, law enforcement officers\, and policy makers to protect the twin values of transparency and responsibility. As Foxman and Wolf show\, only an aroused and engaged citizenry can stop the hate contagion before it spirals out of control—with potentially disastrous results.

SUMMARY:Insider Briefing: "Sustaining American Public Support for Israel"
DESCRIPTION:  \nJaime Grodzicki & Steven W. Rabitz\, Co-Chairs of ADL’s International Affairs Committee\, invite you to a special briefing on: \n  \n“Sustaining American Public Support for Israel” \nwith Cameron Brown\, Tel Aviv University’s Institute for National Security Studies \n  \n\n \n Cameron Brown \n \nShifting demographics are reshaping American politics and US public opinion toward Israel.  Pundits pointed to shifting demographics as making the critical difference in the re-election of President Obama this past fall. Such demographic and social trends present challenges for the longstanding\, solid\, bipartisan support for Israel in U.S. public opinion—a critical pillar of the US-Israel relationship.  Cameron S. Brown\, Neubauer Research Fellow at Tel Aviv University’s Institute for National Security Studies and columnist for the Jerusalem Post\, will discuss such recent trends—the partisan and generational gaps in support for Israel\, the decline in religiosity\, the rise of Latinos\, and American Jewry’s changing face – and assess how each is affecting US public opinion toward Israel. \n  \n\nAdvance registration is required to attend.  RSVP by visiting adlbrown.eventbrite.com or calling 212-885-7970.
