ADL Report: White Supremacist Propaganda Spikes in 2020

Today, ADL released a new report, which revealed white supremacist propaganda distribution surged across the U.S. in 2020, with a total of 5,125 cases of racist, antisemitic, anti-immigrant and anti-LGBTQ messages distributed, nearly double the 2,724 cases reported in 2019. ADL findings revealed a national average of 14 incidents per day, reaching an all-time high in ADL’s tracking data, and an alarming 68% increase in propaganda targeting Jews or Jewish institutions. Within our region:
- ADL recorded 308 incidents of white supremacist propaganda in New York, which is a 72% increase from the 172 documented incidents in 2019. To read more regarding our New York findings, please click here.
- In New Jersey, incidents drastically increased from 12 in 2017 to a record 323 incidents in 2020, which is truly shocking and far outpaces almost any other region. To read more regarding our New Jersey findings, please click here.

If you witness extremist propaganda, you should immediately report it to local law enforcement and alert ADL using our incident reporting platform. You can also show solidarity with those targeted and encourage public officials in your area to condemn the propaganda as an act of hate.
