ADL Deeply Troubled by Anti-Semitic Rhetoric From New York City Council Candidate

  • April 25, 2017

New York, NY, April 25, 2017 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today voiced concern at the injection of anti-Semitic rhetoric into a New York City Council campaign by Thomas Lopez-Pierre, who has posted a series of incendiary statements on social media saying that his opponent is “controlled by greedy Jewish landlords.”

“Mr. Lopez-Pierre should cease using this deeply offensive anti-Semitic stereotype,” said Evan R. Bernstein, ADL New York Regional Director. “Stereotypes have no place in any campaign and we call on all candidates to seek votes based on their qualifications and policy proposals.”

As a 501c3 nonprofit organization, ADL takes no position on behalf of or in opposition to any candidate for office.

The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world’s leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry.  Follow us on Twitter: @ADL_NY
