  • October 27, 2017
On Wednesday, October 18, ADL New York Region hosted the 10th annual Middle East Conference. Close to 200 people from across New York City attended the event at the ADL National Headquarters.
The focus of the conference was “Israel and the United Nations: Challenges and Opportunities.” The event featured Ambassador Noa Furman, Deputy Permanent Representative to the Permanent Mission of Israel to the UN, Ambassador Michele J. Sison, Deputy Permanent Representative to the Permanent Mission of the US to the UN, and Yair Rosenberg of Tablet Magazine. The moderator for the evening was Andrew Silow Carroll, Editor-in-Chief of JTA News.
The high-level representatives from the US and Israel Missions and leading journalists discussed Israel’s treatment at the UN, recent decisions by the US and Israel to leave UNESCO, and the changes brought on by the new US Administration. Blending personal experience with political expertise, the panelists addressed the persistent bias Israel faces at the UN, institutional problems plaguing the Human rights Council, Iranian aggression, as well as positive developments at the UN regarding Israel, Holocaust education, and combating anti-Semitism.
This event is sponsored annually by the generous support of Shelley and Jeffery Parker, members of mec-5ADL’s National Executive Committee and past Chairs of ADL’s New York Regional Board. ADL New York recognizes the Parkers for their dedication to ADL’s work and mission.
